The 28x3 Blockley tyre has the diameter and overall width just as the 28x3 tyre size actually had in period, which was a diameter larger than 28 inches! This is a tyre produced by us as part of the request for numerous beaded edge tyre sizes by the V.M.C.C, the Vintage Motor Cycle Club, who had concerns over the poor quality of beaded edge motorcycle tyres available to their membership, supplied by the Classic tyre wholesalers. And since we are needing this 28x3 size for a Veteran car that we own, our 28x3 tyre has been manufactured to be perfect for motorcar as well as motorcycle use i.e. with a decent sidewall and construction, as well as having a profile making it suitable for an early motorcycle where a rider may lean a little in corners .
The 28x3 tyre size was the fitment for a variety of early American cars such as Curved Dash Oldsmobile, the earlier Fords such as the Model A and Model N, Cadillac Model A, Rambler, Maxwell and many other lesser known marques, in addition to being used on early European built vehicles and lighter cars. This Blockley 28x3 tyre has a handsome period correct looking tread pattern based on an authentic tread that was in existence in the early days of motor cars and and motorcycles, and a pattern used into the late 1920's / early 30's, making the vehicles it is fitted to look perfect. This 28x3 Blockley tyre size is also ideal for many of the V twin Indian and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, making these bikes not only look just as they did in period, but with a quality made reliable product, and ideal for those that like to use their machinery. The 28x3 tyre size is an imperial dimensioned tyre, along with the wheel rim that was made for it, but in Europe we have found the 28x3 tyre marketed as 700x75 in some tyre listings - if in any doubts contact us with your wheel dimensions and we can identify what is required.
We are able to list price our superb Blockley 28x3 tyre at less than even an Ensign brand 28x3 sold elsewhere, and about half the price of Cokers Excelsior, and at a small fraction of the 28x3 Coker Firestone "Non -Skid" and Button tyres, all of which is only possible because we sell our Blockley tyres direct to the end user and garages / restoration shops, without using the services of the UK Classic tyre wholesalers and their commissions. Please be aware that on line some wholesalers are referring to the Coker Excelsior tyre as "Block" 28x3 (which has nothing to do with a block pattern etc) presumably hoping to catch out people looking for the 28x3 Blockley tyre, or giving the impression that the Blockley is sold at their gargantuan price! But now that our Blockley 28x3 is available we should start seeing the wholesalers reduce the prices of what they have (as happened when we introduced our other clincher / beaded edge sizes), perhaps even offering inclusive "free" tubes and so on, but remember these are still the same over priced underwhelming products they've always offered, which is why there has been a requirement for us to go to the effort of making this new Blockley 28x3 size!
