Audi - Audi 50

The Audi 50 was built after the larger Audi 80 and 100 models, this small Audi 50 being launched mid 1974 and available to customers by the end of that year. The two versions were the Audi 50LS with 50bhp and the better appointed Audi 50GL, with 60bhp engine. There was also the Audi 50GLS. The Audi 50 was was not intended for the UK market and only built in left hand drive format. The Volkswagen Polo released a year later was that same Audi 50, but made as basic as possible to keep the price low, and it was this version of the Audi 50 did make it in right hand drive form to the UK! The Polo was the intended replacement for the Beetle.
