Austin - Austin A40 Farina

The Austin A40 was the replacement for the earlier A35, using the same 948cc ohv engine but now giving more power. The A40 Farina was made between the years 1958 and 1968. Unusually for BMC, the company did not not badge engineer this later Austin A40 into anything else in the B.M.C. range. The original Farina A40 was made until 1961. But for 1962 the new Austin A40 Farina Mk2 was given a 3.5 inches longer wheelbase, a front anti roll bar and the engine now fitted with SU carburettors producing more power, compared to the earlier engines that used the Zenith units. For 1962 the A40 Farina mk2 engine was enlarged to 1100cc and stayed in production in this format until 1968.
