Bentley - Bentley R Type

The Bentley R Type took over from the Mk6 model in 1952, which had the "big bore"  4 1/2 litre engine which at 4566cc was more of a 4.6 litre. The car weighed marginally more and had the far more practical and well styled "big boot" on otherwise the same Standard Steel Saloon, and now offered a optional extra choice of an automatic gearbox. The model name of R type came about because the chassis numbers of the car had changed to an R prefix. Bentley R Type production went on to 1955. The Continental two door fastback version later ended up with a enlarged 4.9 litre engine as fitted to the D and E seties cars.
