BMW - BMW S & CS
BMW joined the luxury car market with the introduction of the new 6 cylinder cars built from 1968. These E3 and E9 cars came in 4 door saloon or 2 door coupe formats, the idea being for these models to be far more refined than their "New Class" 4 cylinder models, with added comfort. BMW achieved this, along with bodywork input from Bertone and Michelotti. The 4 door car was the BMW 2500 along with the better appointed BMW 2800. Engine sizes were 2.5, 2.8 and 3 litre in 1971, then 3.2. And toward the end of 1973 the 3.3. litre. For these BMW's the 2 door cars were CS (Coupe Sport) for example 3.0CS, and with fuel injection 3.0 CSi, and the light weight chassis would be CSL. Not to be confused when the letter L gets used on a a 4 door model, where L denotes a long chassis!
As an aside, for the USA market Max Hoffman insisted the lighter and less luxurious BMW 2500 be fitted with the 2800 engine to give improved performance in a lighter weight car. These USA delivery cars were called the BMW Bavaria, and the engine sizes increased as BMW made their engines larger.
The ideal tyre size for the BMW 3.0CS, BMW 3.0CSL and BMW 3.0CSi models is the 205/70VR14, which was also listed as DR70R14. The 3 litre CS and CSL were specified with the higher V speed rated tyre.
