MG - MG TC
Immediately after the war in 1945 production was restarted at Abingdon of what was in effect their prewar MG TB with some changes. The Midget pushrod engine had been stretched on bore and stroke prewar to increase the capacity to 1300 cc, but the new XPAG overhead cam 1250cc engine had made it into the TB just before the hostilities in 1939. Based on the TB the post war MG TC had a slightly wider body making the "running board" almost non existent! The MG TC 's engine also had a slightly modified higher compression ratio and fitted with a chain tensioner, as well as a revised gearbox, with dampers now changed to hydraulic type. The MG TC helped in the Governments export drive that Britain needed with 2/3 of the production being exported by the time production ceased. The MG TC became unexpectedly popular in the USA, starting the post war trend for British sportscars there. Production of the MG TC finished in 1949.
All the MG TC's have 19" wire wheels, but now with centre spoked lacing, unlike the prewar cars (although the TB did have the centre laced wheels part way through it's production), so remember that unlike many of the prewar MG's you will need to fit a rim band on the TC wheels to protect the inner tube. The correct tyre size for the MG TC is 4.50x19, and Blockley produces the best made 450x19, the tyre that so many competitors have tried to emulate! See full details of the 450x19 tyre below.
