Rolls Royce - Rolls Royce Silver Dawn

The Rolls Royce Silver Dawn was produced from 1949 initially as a 4 1/4 litre and by 1951 as the big bore 4 1/2 litre. It was what one might call the Rolls Royce version of the Mk6 and R Type Bentley, with standard steel big boot bodywork. The main difference was the Rolls Royce radiator which meant a different bonnet. As the Mk6 evolved from the small boot standard steel body to the R type with the big boot, so the same thing happened with the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn, although in the Rolls Royce version the name never changed. Although the production date for the Silver Dawn spans the 1949 to 1955, all cars were for export only (the UK Government badly needed foreign exchange) and it was not until 1953 that sales of the Silver Dawn were allowed in the UK.
