Tyre size 185 R 14 with a good H (130mph / 210kmh) speed rating. This is a superior quality tyre with steel belted radial ply construction, with period correct tread pattern, which is the full diameter " 80 profile" size, so this tyre size can also be referred to as 185/80 R 14. Also note that in addition Blockley produces a whitewall version of this 185HR14 tyre, mainly for use on Mercedes models (particularly the Pagoda 230SL, 250SL and 280SL) available from Blockley Tyre Co, as well as the wider version (but same diameter as a 185R14 tyre) which is 205/70VR14 size.

This Blockley 185R14 is a new made full size "80 profile" steel belted Radial tyre, with a good 130mph / 210kph speed rating that has a period correct tread pattern, designed in house. This 185R14 tyre size covers the cross ply equivalent tyre sizes of 6.95x14, 7.35x14 and D70R14. The 185R14 size was also referred to in period as 185x355 which is the metric numbering used in some European countries, another way of describing the 185R14 size.

We were encouraged to produce this size by HKT Reifen in Germany to meet a requirement from the Mercedes Benz Pagoda Club chairman, who wanted a better quality tyre than the unimpressive and expensive whitewall Michelin the Mercedes 280SL owners were having to use. So while we made the whitewall tyre, we also made a standard "black wall" version also which is shown on this page.

These Blockley 185R14 tyres are E Marked and DOT marked (for use in the USA).

Every one of these 185HR14 Blockley tyres is inspected, and checked for dynamic balance - the small painted yellow circle on the side wall can be aligned with the valve stem by the tyre fitter so they know the optimum position to place it. You will not see these on other "Classic" car tyres, no doubt due to the extra costs involved. We perform this additional inspection process as we are determined to supply the best possible no-compromise product. As with all Blockley radial tyres, if these are not the best tyres you have ever driven on, drive 1,000 miles or so and we will refund.

Note that in period a full diameter (also called 80 profile) tyre did not have the "/80" listed in the tyre size, because all radial tyres were full size. It was only much later as lower profile tyres started to become more common that many tyres started having the full profile marked on the sidewall. So 185R14 would also be referred to as 185/80R14, which both mean the same thing. Our Blockley tyre is marked 185R14 on the sidewall because this is the authentic numbering as it would have been originally, on what is now a "Classic" car.

If you require a wider version of a 185R15 tyre size, this would be the 205/70VR15 size which we also produce.
