Alvis - Alvis TD21

The new Alvis TD 21 introduced in 1958 was so much more modern looking, based on the show car bodied by Graber called the TC108G. The chassis of the TD21 had been worked on and modified by Graber. As an aside, Alvis were having problems outsourcing their traditional coachwork, Tickford (who made their drophead bodies) having been purchased by David Brown, and Mulliners in Bordesley Green being bought by Standard Triumph. Alvis purchased all rights, tooling and jigs for the Graber bodywork and after initial problems with costs at the factory they went ended up with Park Ward making these Graber bodies, and a drophead body version was also made. For 1962 four wheel disc brakes replaced the drums making the TD21 Series 2, and the door frames were lightened by skinning them in aluminium to help the wooden frame door pillars which there had been issues with earlier. Alvis TD21 production ended in 1963 to be replaced by the TE21.
