BMW - BMW 3 Series
Built from 1975 to 1983, these 2 door coupes took over from the earlier 02 Series BMW's (BMW 1602, 1802, 2002). These new BMW 3 Series were known in the factory as the E21. This range of E21 BMW 3 Series, over the 8 years of production, started with 4 cylinder and some 6 cylinder models. BMW 316 was the base model, followed by 315 which was a detuned version that had much better fuel economy. The BMW 318 was the mid range car that was replaced in 1980 with the fuel injected version BMW 318i. The BMW 320 was more powerful, available at the same time as the fuel injected BMW 320i . A couple of years later in 1976 came the 6 cylinder carburettor engined 320/6. And finally, the top of the range BMW 323i which was available from 1978 powered by a 3.2 litre fuel injected 6 cylinder.
The original BMW 3 series factory tyre fitments were as follows:
- BMW 315 tyre size was originally 165R13 from the factory.
- BMW 316 and BMW 318 tyre size was 165R13 with a 185/70R13 tyre option.
- BMW 318i was fitted with tyre size 165R13. 185/70R13 can also be fitted.
- BMW 320 with 4 cylinder engine had 165R13 and also 185/70R13.
- BMW 320 with 6 cylinder and BMW 320i had tyre size 185/70R13, for both the four and six cylinder models.
- BMW E21 323i was fitted with tyre size 185/70R13.
