Lotus - Lotus Europa
The Lotus Europa was the mid engined sportscar available from 1966, installed with a modified version of the Renault 1470cc engine that produced 78bhp and coupled to a Renault transaxle. The Europa was also referred to as the Lotus Type 46. Later these Europas were called the Series 1, and with various changes became the Series 1A and 1B. Next for the Series 2, the body was no longer bonded to the backbone chassis, but bolted on which made them so much more straightforward to work on, and these cars were also known as the Lotus 54. During 1971 the Europa was fitted with the 1588cc Lotus Ford Twin Cam which produced 105bhp. This was the Lotus 74. By 1973 the Europa Special was producing 126bhp with higher compression, bigger valves and twin Dellorto carburettors, along with a 5 speed gearbox option, by far the fastest of the Lotus Europas, tested to 60mph at 6.6 seconds. Production of the Lotus Europa continued 1975.
Tyre size for the Lotus Europa from 1967 was listed 155R13 and its wider version the 175/70R13, and these were the tyres in use on the Europa up to 1973. The Lotus Europa Twin cam built from 1972 was fitted with the 175/70R13 tyre size on the front, with the 185/70R13 tyre size used for the rear. Blockley produces the perfect 155HR13, 175/70VR13 and 185/70VR13 tyre sizes with period correct tread patterns, which will transform the handling of these cars, guaranteed.
