Triumph - Triumph Dolomite
The Triumph Dolomite was built from 1972. Although it had been shown as far back as late 1971, it was some two years before production was available, due mostly to Trade Union issues within British Leyland. The Dolomite was a front engined rear wheel drive car, which used the bodywork that was basically that of the Triumph 1500 (which was a front wheel drive car) mated to the mechanical parts from the rear wheel drive 1300cc Toledo. The Triumph Dolomite was fitted with an 1854 cc four cylinder engine. By mid 1973, with help from the great Harry Mundy a 16 valve cylinder head was developed, now mated to a larger 2 litre engine to make the Triumph Dolomite Sprint, which was the first mass produced production 4 valve per cylinder car, providing one discounts the Bentleys from the 1920's produced in much smaller numbers! This resulted in a 0-60 mph time under 9 seconds which was a great achievement for a 2 litre road car in 1963! The Dolomite came with a multitude of optional extras such as bigger carburettors, free flow exhaust and so on, but these were more likely offered to assist with the cars being Rallied or being used in Touring car races. Triumphs range of Dolomites consisted of five models, which were the Dolomite 1300 , Dolomite 1500 and the upgraded HL version, Dolomite 150 and Dolomite Sprint. Triumph Dolomite production went on to 1980.
The Triumph Dolomite was fitted with tyre size 155SR13 as well as the wider version of this tyre, the 175/70R13. The Dolomite Sprint tyre size was exclusively 175/70R13. Blockley produce a high speed rated 175/70VR13 tyre, with period correct tread pattern with steel belt construction, suitable for all Triumph Dolomite models.
