Vauxhall - Vauxhall Wyvern
The Vauxhall Wyvern introduced in 1951 was an all new design, utilising a monocoque design chassis. Initially it was fitted with the older Vauxhall 1442cc overhead valve long stroke engine, but when the RAC horsepower taxation calculation got changed (which was originally based on bore size only), Vauxhall built an almost square 1507cc engine which was installed a few months afterwards, during 1952. For 1955 the front end of the Wyvern was restyled, and yet again in 1957. Vauxhall Wyvern production went on to 1957.
- The Vauxhall Wyvern built between 1948 and 1951 was fitted with 16 inch wheels and fitted with tyre size 5.00x16
- Vauxhall Wyvern models between 1951 and 1957 had 15 inch wheels fitted with 5.60x15 tyres which is radial equivalent 155R15, which is also the size that was listed in period tyre manufacturers lists. Blockley produces this 155HR15 tyre size in both standard and whitewall versions. Some owners like to fit the very slightly larger 165R15 tyre size. Blockley produces the original fitment 155HR15 tyre (in standard and whitewall versions) as well as the slightly larger 165VR15 tyre size for thiose that want this - see full details of these tyres at the links below:
