Wolseley - Wolseley 4/44 & 15/50
The Wolseley 4/44 was available from 1953 with a Nuffield 1250cc overhead valve engine, similar to what was fitted to the MG YB, and was the design work of Gerald Palmer (after he had designed the Jowett Javelin). The Wolseley 15/50 was a development of the earlier 4/44 produced from 1956, which replaced the earlier 4/44. The 15/50 had the new BMC B series 1,489 cc 4 cylinder engine, but fitted with only one carburettor. The Wolseley 15/50 was the BMC version of the more potent MG Magnette which had been introduced a few years earlier. So although the Wolseley had less performance compared to the MG, it was better appointed inside with polished walnut dashboard and capping, leather seats and so on. The Wolseley 15/50 was produced until 1958 when it was replaced by the 15/60.
Wolseley 4/44 tyre size was originally 5.50x15, with the later Wolseley 15/50 having an almost identical tyre size 5.60x15, the radial ply equivalent of these being our Blockley 155HR15. Note that in this 155HR15 tyre size Blockley makes a normal black tyre as well as a whitewall tyre option.
