Armstrong Siddeley - Armstron Siddeley Sapphire

The Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire was a completely new model, a large saloon built in 4 and 6 light bodywork, and following on three years later as a Limousine. The Sapphire was first produced in 1953 with a 6 cylinder square 90x90 3435cc engine, as the Sapphire 346. The smaller engine Sapphire 234 and 236 models (2290 and 2309cc)  introduced in 1955 were developed from the previous overhead valve 18hp models, but competition in the market place from cars like Jaguar hit Armstrong Siddeley sales, and production of both cars stopped in 1958, at the same time as larger bore version of the 3.5 litre Sapphire 346, the 4 litre Star Sapphire was release by Armstrong Siddeley. The Star Sapphire continued in production until 1960 when vehicle production ceased when the company owners (Hawker Siddeley) merged with Bristol.

Tyre sizes for Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 234 236 and 346 and Star Sapphire are:

- Sapphire 346 and Star Sapphire tyre size was originally 6.70x16 , and the radial equivalent is the 185R16 size. Blockley make a superb radial steel belted 185VR16 tyre.

The Sapphire 234 and 236 models had smaller 15" wheels with 6.40x15 tyres. This is equivalent to the radial 185R15 tyre size, and Blockley produce a high quality steel belted 185VR15 tyre.
