DKW

DKW was started in 1916 by Dutchman Jorgen Rasmussen in Germany, initially producing steam fittings, an attempted steam car, and a 25cc 2 stroke childs toy adapted later into a bicycle engine, which eventually led on to making motorcycles. DKW took over the ailing Audi in 1928 and and with the terrible economic climate of the time formed the Auto Union group, adding Horch and Wanderer. The cars subsequently produced were 2 stroke and front wheel drive, and built in large numbers mostly for the domestic market.
