Mercedes - Mercedes SL / SLC (type R107)
The Sports car range of Mercedes R107 Roadsters became available from 1971. The R107 was in production with various upgrades until 1989. This Mercedes changed minimally in shape throughout the production. The hard top was the SL (R107) and the coupe version was the SLC (C107). These encompass the Mercedes 350SL and 350SLC, with the Mercedes 450SL and 450SLC (plus a 450SLC 5.0) introduced a couple of years later. As the fuel crisis came along a 6 cylinder version was also included in the form of the Mercedes 280SL. As time went on the 350SL became the Mercedes 380SL while the 450SL was enlarged to the 500SL and 500SLC. By 1989 the 350SL was replaced by the 420SL and the 280SL became the 300SL. For a brief period there was also the 560SL made specifically for the USA market. So as you can see, the SL/SLC R107 Mercedes encompassed many models over its 18 years of production! The SL was a soft top with an optional hard top, whereas the SL Coupe was the hardtop version which left room for seats in the back.
