MG - MG P Type

The MG P Type was available from early 1934, with a new 850cc engine, having a 3 main bearing crankshaft allowing for higher power output, as a replacement for the J Type. There were many improvements, using a stronger and slightly longer wheelbase chassis with an uprated transmission with 4 speed gearbox as standard, and fitted with larger12 inch brake s, up from teh earlier 8inch diameter drums. Later in 1934 the PB model was introduced with the capacity now increased to 939cc, along with a closer ratio gearbox - these cars had a different looking radiator grille with vertical slats. Today many refer to the earlier P Type as the PA with the larger capacity car the PB. Available with 2 and 4 seat bodywork from Abingdon, with a few chassis being bodied by outside coachbuilders, the Airline Coupe being the best known example of these. Production of the MG P Type lasted to early 1936.

Tyre size for the MG P Type was 4.00x19 for the PA and PB, and Blockley produce the only perfect accurate example of the original 4.00x19 tyre - full details below. Quite a few owners today fit our taller 4.50x19 tyre size "to fill the space under the wings", so we list our authentic period correct Blockley 4.50x19 tyre size also - see full details of these tyres below:
