Standard - Standard Ten
The Standard Ten was introduced from 1954, offered with both 2 door and 4 door bodies, as a better appointed and more powerful version of the "Eight" which had been unveiled the previous year, 1953. The overhead valve engines engine capacity was increased to 948 cc by increasing the bore size from 58 mm to 63 mm. There was also an Estate version called the Standard Companion, plus pick up and panel van types as well. Standard Ten production carried on until 1959. There was also another version of the Standard Ten called the Pennant with slightly different bodywork and a more powerful engine.
The Standard Ten tyre size was originally 5.20x13 which is radial equivalent 145R13 size. Blockley produces the perfect 145R13 steel belt construction tyre, which has a diameter very similar to the original size as the Blockley is the closest to teh original cross ply size of any tyre brand available tody.
Standard Pennant and Companion had larger tyres with 5.60x13 tyres, or equivalent 155R13 tyre.
It is interesting to note that the Triumph version of the Standard Ten was sold in the USA fitted with the 155R13 tyre size. Some people today fit this slightly larger 155R13 tyre to the Standard Ten.
