Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo Alfasud
The Alfasud was built in a brand new factory in Southern Italy as a joint partnership with the Italian government, to help boost employment in the region. Hence the model name Alfa Sud. Made from 1971 to 1989 it was meant to be a more affordable base model from Alfa Romeo. Styled by Giugiaro it was a very successful model. The first cars had a flat four 1.2 litre engine and a much sportier Alfasud Ti followed the following year 1974 with increased power, later followed by Alfasud SE and Alfasud L - L for Lusso or Luxury. For 1976 the Alfasud was given the 5 speed gearbox with the Alfasud Sprint being a 2 door coupe with hatchback and 1.3 litre engine. For 1978 the 1350cc and 1500cc engines were available. 1980 saw a very new look with a 2 door coupe Alfasud designed by Giugiaro, available as 1300, 1500 and Veloce specification which had a good production run which continued to 1989.
Tyre sizes for Alfasud:
- Alfasud models of 1200cc up to 1400cc throughout the production were fitted with 145R13 tyre size, and Blockley produces an excellent steel belt construction example. If a non standard fatter tyre was wanted a 155R13 or 175/70R13 could be fitted.
- All other Alfasud models with larger 14" wheels were fitted with tyre size 165R14 and Blockley produces an excellent steel belt, good speed rated 165HR14. Note that these 165R14 tyres could also be referred to as 165-350 which confuse people into thinking they are a millimetric size, but this is exactly the same tyre but just numbered in an all metric manner! For those wanting a wider 14" tyre (but same diameter) we also produce the 185/70VR14 size See full details of any of these tyre sizes below:
