Daimler - Daimler Double -Six
When Jaguar purchased Daimler from BSA, it was mainly so that Jaguar could expand the size of its premises. They carried on some of the ongoing Daimler projects such as the SP250 as well as using the Daimler brand on some of the Jaguar models that were built subsequently, which were invariably the same but for the fluted radiator surround and different minor specifications.
When the XJ series of cars was built, the V12 engine 5.3 litre XJ12 had a Daimler equivalent, which was called the Daimler Double-Six, a name famous in Daimler history for the Double Six they had made in the early 1930's. This new Daimler Double Six built under Jaguar in 1972 was available in both 4 door (initially the shorter chassis as on the Jaguar XJ12) and for a short period (1975 to 1977) with two door Coupe bodywork.
Daimler Double six tyre size for the first year of production 1972 only was the 205/70VR15 size, but thereafter the Daimler Double-Six was fitted with the larger 215/70VR15 size, which carried on that way through to 1986.
For interest, the 6 cylinder XJ6 never had the larger size tyre specified, keeping with the 205/70R15 size.
