Triumph - Triumph Stag
The Triumph Stag was produced from 1971, with a unitary chassis construction and bodywork styled by Giovanni Michelotti as a 2+2 tourer, or more a convertible 4 seater, that was initially designed around the Triumph 2000 chassis. The engine in the Triumph Stag ended up being a specially designed 3 litre V8 based on a pair of the 4 cylinder Dolomite blocks (which were in themselves developments of the Saab 99). Throughout the production of the Stag various problems were highlighted with the engine. It had been hoped the Stag would be a popular seller in the USA market, but things didn't work out that way, which wasn't helped by the oil crisis of the early 1970's either. The cars exported to the USA were fitted with larger diameter 15 inch wheels, while for the home market and elsewhere the wheel size was 14 inch. 1973 saw the Mk2 Stag launched. Production of the Triumph Stag continued to 1977.
Triumph Stag tyre size was 185HR14 originally, a full profile size, and Blockley produces a superb 185HR14 tyre, steel belted and with the correct original factory specification H speed rate, with period correct tread pattern look.
