Talbot - Talbot Lago
Automobiles Talbot in France was taken over by Tony Lago in 1936. Many models were made, all 6 cylinder, the best known being the 4 litre T150 CSS and SS with the extra short chassis often bodeid by Figoni.
The Talbot-Lago T26 was the post war six cylinder 4.5 litre model, with a new engine, which fell into the 26 CV tax rating. The "Record" was the long chassis 4 door version that produced some 170hp, with an optional preselector gearbox. The T26 Grand Sport (or GS) was the short chassis version with engine tuned up to 195bhp using higher 9.5:1 compression and 3 carburettors. The Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport was usually supplied in chassis form for bodywork at the clients choice of coachbuilder, but the company itself had a good looking standard body for this chassis also. For a post war scenario, the large engine capacity put the Talbot-Lago in a high horsepower tax band, which hampered sales in France.
