Ford - Ford Zephyr
The Ford Zephyr first appeared in 1950 as the top of the range Ford line. The first model of Zephyr was made between 1950 and 1956 using the 2262cc six cylinder engine, installed in a lengthened version of the Consul frame. The Zephyr Mk2 which replaced it (made from 1956 to 1962) was restyled and fitted with a larger version of this engine, with 2553cc capacity. The Zephyr Mk 3 was a very different looking car altogether (built from 1962 to 1966), and there were two versions. One was with the same 6 cylinder engine (Zephyr 6 Mk3) and the other a 1703cc four cylinder (Zephyr 4 Mk3) from the Consul which had just been discontinued. Afterwards came the Zephyr Mk4, again a complete new redesign, on a much longer wheelbase, and available from 1966. These later cars had the totally new engines, the smaller Zephyr 4 Mk4 having the V4 1,996cc engine with the Zephyr 6 Mk4 having the 2495cc V6 engine.
Tyre sizes used originally with the Ford Zephyr:
- Tyre size for the earlier Ford Zephyr Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 built between 1950 and 1966 was the cross ply 6.40x13 tyre size, which is equivalent to the radial 165HR13 high speed rated steel belt construction period correct looking Blockley tyre that we produce. Anyone wanting a non standard wider (but same diameter) tyre should look at the 185/70VR13 tyre we produce. See details of these tyres at the links below:
- Tyre size for Ford Zephyr Mk. 4 models having the V6 engine, built between 1966 and 1972, were fitted with larger diameter 14" wheels, that were fitted with radial 185SR14 tyres direct from the factory. Blockley produces a perfect period correct 185HR14 tyre size in a choice of standard and whitewall versions. A non standard wider (but same diameter) 205/70R14 tyre could also be fitted for those wanting something wider.
