Volvo - Volvo 240 series
The Volvo 240 was produced from 1972, a development from the 140 model but with overhead cam enginesand distinguishable by its "shovel nose" front which was based on their safety car prototype of the same year. In the 200 series of cars, the numbering of Volvo 244 means second series, 4 cylinder and 4 doors, while the Volvo 245 was the 4 cylinder 5 door (estate version). The models were Volvo 242L , 242DL , 244DL , 244GL , 245L and 245DL. There were slight bodywork changes over time, but 1979 brought a big change with the different look and square headlampslamps. In all about 30% of all Volvo 230 sold were the estate car version. The Volvo 200 series was in production for some 20 years to 1993, well known for their reliable and robust nature.
Tyre sizes for the 240 series was:
- Volvo 240 tyre size (ie Volvo 244 and Volvo 245 models) were originally fitted with tyre size 185R14. Blockley makes a superb 185HR14 as well as the same 185HR14 size with whitewall.
- The tyre size for the Volvo 265 Estate car was 185R14 also.
- The Volvo 244GL and fuel injected GLT, plus Volvo 264GL tyre size was 185/70 R14. Blockley makes this lower profile size tyre also.
- Some of these 240 series Volvo were occasionally fitted with optional 15" wheels from the showroom, in which case you can fit a our Blockley 185/70VR15 tyre size, but in the majority of cases the Volvo 240 series (242 , 244 , 245 , 264 ) wheels are 14 inch diameter.
