Standard - Standard.Prewar cars
The Standard Motor Company built cars from 1903, initially concentrating on larger often 6 cylinder cars, but after the war of 1914-18 decided to concentrate on smaller cars. Vehicles from the veteran and Edwardian era were all fitted with beadede dge tyres, and by 1923 tyres fitted were well base type.
Listed below are the tyre sizes that were originally fitted to the various Standard models, all of which are produced by Blockley Tyre Co and available along with correct inner tubes to suit:
- Tyre size 700x80 (also called 26x3) fitted to: Standard 10hp (2 cylinder 631cc) of 1906, Standard 9.5hp (1087cc of 1914-15 and later 1328cc of 1919), Standard 8hp (4 cylinder ohv 1087cc) built 1922-1923, Standard 15hp (6 cylinder 1593cc) available in 1907.
- Tyre size 710x90 fitted to: Standard 11.6hp , the 1600cc car built from 1920 to 1924.
- Tyre size 760x90 fitted to: Standard 12hp (4 cylinder 1656cc) built 1910 to 1911.
- Tyre size 815x105 fitted to: Standard 16/20 (4 cylinder 3531cc) bulit 1906, Standard 15hp (4 cylinder 2368cc) built 1912.
- Tyre size 820x120 fitted to: Standard 30hp (6 cylinder 5297cc) built 1907, Standard 20hp (4 cylinder 3336cc) built 1913 to 1914.
- Tyre size 880x120 fitted to: Standard 23/40hp (6 cylinder 5232cc) built 1906, Standard 20hp (6 cylinder 4032cc) built 1908 to 1911, Standard 20hp (6 cylinder 3620cc) built 1912, Standard 25hp (6 cylinder 4032cc) built 1912, Standard 40hp (6 cylinder 6107cc) built 1908 to 1911.
- Tyre size 895x135 fitted to Standard 50hp (6 cylinder 11,734cc) built 1906.
- Tyre size 4.50x18 fitted to Standard "Little 9" side valve 1006
&later 1052cc) built 1933 to 1936, Standard "Little 12" side valve
1337cc) built 1933. Blockley produces a 450/500x18 tyre to suit.
- Tyre size 4.75x18 was fitted to Standard 10 ( side valve 1343cc) built 1934 to 1936, Standard "Big 9" for 1933 only, Standard "Big 12" (side valve 1497cc) built 1933 which became the Standard 12/6 for 1934, Standard 12 (side valve 1608cc) built 1934 to 1935. 4.75x18 is a tyre size no longer made, but Blockley produces the 4.50/5.00x18 tyre which we would recommend.
- Tyre size 5.50x18 was fitted to Standard 20 (side valve 2552cc) built 1933 to 1936. The earlier built 20 had 19" wheels, Standard "Light 20" bulit in 1936.
- Tyre size 4.50x19 was fitted to Standard 11 (ohv 1307cc) built 1923, Standard 9hp (1159cc) built 1928, Standard "Big 9" (1287cc) built 1928 to 1932.
- Tyre size 5.00x19 was fitted to Standard 15 (6 cylinder 1930cc) built 1929 to 1930 which became the longer chassied Standard "15 Long" built in 1930 and 1931, Standard 16 (6 cylinder 2054cc) built 1929 to 1933, Standard 20 (6 cylinder 2552cc) built 1931 to 1932.
- Tyre size 5.50x19 was fitted to Standard 20 (side valve 2552cc) built 1931 to 1932. Later examples of the 20 from 1933 through 1936 were fitted with 18" wheels.
- Tyre size 5.25x21 fitted to Standard 14 (4 cylinder ohv 1944cc) built 1923 through to 1928, and Standard 18/36 (6 cylinder ohv 2230cc) built 1927 to 1930.
