Bugatti - Bugatti Type 49
The Bugatti Type 49 replaced the earlier 44 model in 1930 but used the same single cam engine, which was bored out to 3.3 litres. The blocks were now modified to take twin spark plugs, which were fed from a distributor with an impressive 16 high tension leads coming out of it! Wheels tended to be a bolt on cast alloy 18", and many 49's had saloon bodywork. Production of the Type 49 went to 1934.
Bugatti T49 tyre size was originally "28x5.25" which was teh period way of saying 5.25x18, but seeing as this size has been unavailable for over at leat 80 years, the size all these cars are fitted with is the similar 5.50x18 and Blockley produces a highest quality authentic superb handling tyre. Of the 2 styles of 5.50x18 tyres we produce, we would recommend the 3 stud to be the more authentic of the two for a car spanning the T49 production date. We also produce a taller diameter tyre that we show below also which could be useful for some applications.
